Go Back

Party

Words & Music by Jessie Mae Robinson

Lyrics:

I feel it in my leg,
I feel it in my shoe
Tell me pretty baby
If you think you feel it too
Let's have a party
Let's have a party
Send to the store
And let's buy some more
And let's have a party tonight

Some people like to rock
Some people like to roll
But movin' and a groovin'
Gonna satisfy my soul

I've never kissed a bear
I've never kissed a goon
But I can shake a chicken
In the middle of the room

Now Honky Tonky Joe
Is knockin' at the door
Bring him in and fill him up
And set him on the floor

First album:

RCA EPA-1 1515, 1957, Loving You, Volume 1

First recorded:

Soundtrack Session for Paramount: Paramount Scoring Stage, Hollywood, California, January 15, 1957

More info:

Jesse Mae Robinson wrote Party for Elvis's 1957 movie, Loving You. In February 1957 Elvis recorded two versions of the song at Radio Recorders - one for the film and one for record release. Party was sung several times in Loving You. The correct full title is (Let's Have a) Party. A different version with an added verse can be heard on the bootleg LP Got a Lot O' Livin' to Do. Shortly after the release of Loving You, the Collins Kids recorded a cover version of Party (Columbia 41012), and in 1960, Wanda Jackson released a rendition (Capitol 4397) titled Let's Have a Party that peaked at #37 on the Hot 100 chart.
