Go Back

O Come, All Ye Faithful

Words & Music by Traditional, arranged by Elvis Presley

Lyrics:

O come, all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye, o come ye to Bethelehem
Come and behold him
Born the king of angels
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Sing choirs of angels
Sing in exaltation
Oh sing all ye rivals
Of heaven above
Glory to God, Glory in the highest
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

This perennial Christmas favourite was written in France in the mid-1700s under the title Adeste Fideles. The composers are unknown. Adeste Fideles was first published in England in John F. Wade's volume, Cantus Diversi (1751). In 1841 Frederick Oakeley (1802-1880) translated the Latin words into English.

Bing Crosby recorded Adeste Fidelis on June 8, 1942. His recording of Silent Night / Adeste Fidelis (Decca 621) has, through the years, sold about 30 million copies. Backing Crosby on both songs was the Max Terr Choir and the John Scott Trotter Orchestra. In 1960 the rerelease of Adeste Fidelis (Decca 23777) reached #45 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

Elvis recorded O Come All Ye Faithful at Radio Recorders on May 16, 1971.
