The 1966 home tapes were recorded by Red West and discovered at Graceland some 30 years later. Red had brought two stereo tape decks for his Los Angeles apartment with the idea of producing professional song writing demos. I've Been Blue, together with two other embryonic versions that he and Charlie Hodge pitched to Elvis, was included in those recordings, that most probably took place on Rocca Place, in Hollywood, between filming.
