Go Back

It Wouldn't Be The Same Without You

Words & Music by Jimmy Wakely, Fred Rose

Lyrics:

I could wander the byway, rewander too
But it wouldn't be the same without you
Those familiair old places would just make me blue
'Cause it wouldn't be the same without you

I wasted my love on a careless romance
But I'd do it again, if I had the chance
I could start my life over with somebody new
But it wouldn't be the same without you

I wasted my love on a careless romance
But I'd do it again, if I had the chance
I could start my life over with somebody new
But it wouldn't be the same without you

More info:

In July 1953 Elvis had paid for the recording of an acetate at Sun Records and the songs of his choosing were My Happiness and That's When Your Heartaches Begin. In January 1954 he stopped by the office to cut another acetate, without even the excuse that it was a surprise for his mother. His selection this time consisted of a 1953 pop hit by Joni James, I'll Never Stand in Your Way, and a Jimmy Wakely country tune, It Wouldn't be the Same Without You. This time, however, his lack of confidence betrayed him, and he sounds more forced, less self-assured than he did the first time he entered the studio.

Sean O'Neal provided a recording of this song that was out for the first time in 1999, in Sunrise.
