Go Back

If I Loved You

Words & Music by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein

Go Back

If I Loved You

Words & Music by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein

Lyrics:

If I loved you
Words wouldn't come in an easy way
Round in circles I'd go
Only to tell you
But afraid and shy
I let my golden chances pass me by

Soon you'll leave me
Ought (?) you would go in a misty day
Never, never let you know
I love you eternally

More info:

If I Loved You, one of the songs that Elvis recorded on his house of Perugia Way, was reprised on tape in 1966. It was a Rodgers and Hammerstein song from the 1945 musical Carousel and would have been an unusual choice for Elvis, who rarely tackled show tunes, had it not been for the fact that his idol Roy Hamilton had recorded it.
