Dark Moon

Words & Music by Ned Miller

Lyrics:

Dark moon, way up high up in the sky
Oh, tell me why, oh tell me why
You've lost your splendor
Dark moon, what is the cause your life withdraws
Is it because, is it because I've lost my love

Mortals have dreams of love's perfect schemes
But they don't realize, their love can sometimes bring the

Dark moon, way up high up in the sky
Oh, tell me why, oh tell me why
You've lost your splendor
Dark moon, what is the cause your life withdraws
Is it because, is it because I've lost my love

Mortals have dreams of love's perfect schemes
But they don't realize, their love can sometimes bring the

Dark moon, way up high up in the sky
Oh, tell me why, oh tell me why
You've lost your splendor
Dark moon, what is the cause your life withdraws
Is it because, is it because I've lost my love

Mortals have dreams of love's perfect schemes
But they don't realize, their love can sometimes bring the

Dark moon, way up high up in the sky
Oh, tell me why, oh tell me why
You've lost your splendor
Dark moon, what is the cause your life withdraws
Is it because, is it because I've lost my love
What is the cause your light withdraws
Is it because, is it because I've lost my love

More info:
Ned Miller wrote Dark Moon in 1957. Several recordings of the song were released that year, but it appears that Bonnie Guitar (Dot 15550) had the original version in April. Her recording, which was pressed by Fabor Records (Fabor 1018) and then leased to Dot, reached #6 on Billboard's Top 100 chart. Close on her heels was Gale Storm's cover version (Dot 15558) which did even better, peaking at #4. Hawkshaw Hawkins had a country release of Dark Moon (RCA 6910) in June 1957 that did not chart.

Elvis recorded Dark Moon at Graceland in the 1960s with his own guitar accompaniment. It surfaced on the A Golden Celebration LP in 1984.
