Lyrics:

Amazing grace, oh how sweet the sound
That saved a wreck like me
I once was lost, though now I'm found
I was blind, but now I see
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Then when, when we first begun
Too many ages false and spent
I have already hung
This face and flock He saved us by
His endless grace will leave me whole
Amazing grace, oh how sweet the sound
To save a wreck like me

I once was lost, but now I'm found
I was blind, but now I see

More info:

This traditional hymn was written by the Rev. John Newton of the Church of England in 1779. Amazing Grace uses only six different notes in its sixteen-bar melody. The hymn was first popularized in America by Singin' Billy Walker. In 1971 Judy Collins had a #15 Hot 100 hit and million- seller with Amazing Grace (Elektra 45709). The next year, the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Band (RCA 74-0709) had the only million-seller that ever used bagpipes. The bagpipes solo was performed by Major Tony Crease. Their recording reached #11 on Billboard's Hot 100 hcart. A segment of their recording can be heard in the 1978 movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. At the funeral of Ronnie Van Zant, Charlie Daniels and the .38 Special sang Amazing Grace.

Elvis recorded Amazing Grace on March 15, 1971, at RCA's Nashville studios.
