Back in Memphis consisted of sides 3 and 4 of the two-record album set From Memphis to Vegas / From Vegas to Memphis. Except for the bottom song-title strip and the album title, the covers were identical. All songs on this LP were recorded at American Sound Studios in Memphis (January 13-23, 1969 and February 17-22, 1969). The original release of Back in Memphis was pressed on nonflexible vinyl. All later pressings used flexible vinyl. Back in Memphis peaked at #183 on Billboard's Top LPs chart and remained on the chart for only three weeks. This was the worst performance by any Elvis Presley album that reached the charts.
