Go Back

True Love

Words & Music by Cole Porter

Suntanned, windblown, honeymooners at last alone
Feeling far above par, oh how lucky we are
While I give to you and you give to me
True love, true love
So, on and on it will always be
True love, true love
For you and I have a guardian angel on high
With nothing to do but to give to you
And to give to me love forever true

First album:

RCA EPA-1 1515, 1957, Loving You, Volume 1

First recorded:

Radio Recordings for RCA Radio Recorders, Hollywood, California, February 23 1957

Cole Porter composed True Love for the 1956 movie musical High Society, in which it was introduced by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. The first record release of True Love seems to be the one by Jane Powell (Verve 2018) in 1956. Her version reached #15 on Billboard's Top 100 chart. A few days after Powell's release, the version by Crosby and Kelly began climbing the charts. It peaked at #4 and became a million-seller. The flip side of their record was Well, Did You Evah, a duet by Crosby and Frank Sinatra.

Elvis recorded True Love on February 23, 1957, at Radio Recorders. Take #20 was selected by RCA for release.
