Go Back

My Babe

Words & Music by Willie Dixon, Charles Stone

Well, my babe don't stand no cheating, my babe
Well, my babe don't stand no cheating, my babe
You know, my babe don't stand no cheating
She don't, she don't, she don't, oh, God
My babe, I know she loves me, my babe

Well, my babe, I know she loves me, my babe
Well, my babe, I know she loves me, my babe
Well, my babe, I know she loves me
She don't do nothing but kiss and love me
My babe, I know she loves me, my babe

My Babe was written by Willie Dixon and Charles Stone and first recorded by Little Walter Jacobs (Checker 811) in 1955. The song was an adaptation of the gospel tune This Train, which Sister Rosetta Thorpe wrote in the 1940s. Little Walter's recording topped the rhythm & blues chart for four weeks. In 1960 co-composer Willie Dixon recorded his song under the title My Baby Don't Stand no Cheating (Folkways LPF-2386). Roy Head barely made the Hot 100 (#99) in 1966 with his recording of My Babe (Back Beat 560).

Elvis sang My Babe in concert on a few occasions. Live versions from the International Hotel in August 1969 were released on record by RCA.
